Research interests
I am an analyst working on problems in modern mathematical physics, with research interests centered on integrable systems, integrable probability, and related topics.
Some topics I focus on include: integrable ODEs/PDEs, random matrix theory, determinantal point processes, orthogonal polynomials, asymptotic analysis, Riemann-Hilbert problems, special functions......
With the rapid development of AI, it has started to take part in the research of mathematicians. This brings many new possibilities, but also many questions. As someone still at an early stage of my career, I have to admit that I sometimes feel anxious about these changes. They often make me wonder what it will mean to be a mathematician in the age of AI, and what my own future as a young mathematician will look like.
I certainly enjoy thinking about a problem by myself, slowly making progress and finally understanding something that I did not understand before. This process is often difficult and sometimes frustrating, but it is also one of the things I enjoy most about doing mathematics. Still, when I think about why I chose mathematics in the first place, I do not think it was because I wanted to solve everything on my own. It was mainly because I was curious. I liked encountering something I did not know and trying to find out what the answer might be.
For this reason, I am also open to the use of AI in mathematics. If it can help me explore questions that interest me, or make it possible to go further than I could otherwise go, I do not see a reason to reject it simply because the way we do mathematics may be changing. Perhaps this is also something that my generation of mathematicians will have to learn along the way.
I have never thought of mathematics mainly as a competition between people. For me, it is an interest, and it is also my work. What matters most to me is still the possibility of finding something that I do not know, thinking about it, and trying to understand it. How AI will change mathematics is difficult to predict, but I hope I can remain open to these changes without losing the curiosity that brought me to mathematics in the first place.
